Marine Breynaert

Marine Breynaert has developed a unique aesthetic that blends industrial heritage, architecture, and contemporary poetry. Trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and having worked in the textile and fashion industries, she designs lighting fixtures with bold lines, where steel, brass, gold, and metal components interact with precious materials.

Her artistic language has its roots in her grandfather’s industrial maintenance shop in the Landes region. It was there, surrounded by machines, motors, that she learned to turn, mill, weld, and assemble. Ball bearings, gears, and mechanical components gradually became the foundation of her first totems, and later her first lamps.

Over time, his work has incorporated Carrara marble, ceramics, glass, and oxidized wood, each material requiring its own distinct craftsmanship. Each piece is thus the result of a collaboration among various workshops: a bronze artist at the Orfèvrerie de Saint-Denis, a gilder in Paris, a lathe operator and miller and a ceramicist in Normandy, as well as a woodturner in Bordeaux. Assembly and finishing are then carried out in his studio in Fontainebleau.

Balancing technical mastery with the serendipitous qualities of the materials, Marine Breynaert creates luminous objects that are both powerful and delicate, where industry becomes ornamentation and constraints become a breeding ground for invention.
